Carmona was formerly a settlement identified as Latag, which was annexed on the city of Silang upon the latter's development in 1595. The origins of its title are unknown. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag right into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
